Blackstone Household Hazardous Waste Day Set for August 9

Blackstone Household Hazardous Waste Day is officially scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School parking lot. This free event is a safe, convenient way for residents to dispose of household chemicals and hazardous products that don’t belong in the regular trash.
At the time of this writing, the event had not yet been posted on the Blackstone Board of Health webpage, but it was confirmed on their official Facebook page on August 4 at 5:00 PM.
This is a first come, first served event and is open to Blackstone residents only. Proof of residency is required—please bring either:
- A photo ID with your Blackstone address
- Or a photo ID and a piece of mail showing your name and Blackstone address
There is a limit of one vehicle per household, and each household may bring up to 25 pounds or 25 gallons of hazardous materials. No commercial vehicles, trailers, or box trucks will be accepted.
What to Bring to Blackstone Household Hazardous Waste Day
The following household hazardous waste items will be accepted for safe disposal:
- Oil-based paints, stains, and varnishes
- Paint strippers and solvents
- Automotive fluids and cleaners as well as gas and kerosene
- Household cleaners, acids, and degreasers
- Poisons and toxic chemicals
- Swimming pool chemicals
- Insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides
- Polishes and adhesives
- Photo chemicals and antifreeze
- Fire extinguishers
These items are not safe to dispose of in your regular trash and could pose risks to people, pets, and the environment if handled improperly.
Good to know: Items do not need to be in original containers, but they must be safely contained to prevent spills or leaks.
What Will Not Be Accepted at Blackstone Household Hazardous Waste Day
Some items will not be accepted due to regulations. Do not bring the following:
- Waste oil or latex paint
- Explosives, fireworks, or ammunition
- Asbestos or shock-sensitive materials
- Empty containers or gas cylinders
- Mercury thermostats or fluorescent bulbs
- Car batteries or button batteries
- Biological, radioactive, or medical waste including sharps/syringes
- Ethological waste (e.g., animal specimens)

What to Expect at the Event
- The event is free for Blackstone residents.
- Collection takes place in the BMR High School parking lot.
- Staff / Volunteers will be available to assist with unloading items if needed.
- Hazardous materials must be safely packaged, even if not in original containers.
- Expect some traffic and wait times during peak hours—please be patient and follow posted signs or directions from staff.
