Water Main Flushing Notice for Blackstone Residents

The Blackstone Water Department will be conducting water main flushing throughout town this April. This important maintenance process helps to improve the overall water quality by cleaning the inner walls of the pipes, removing naturally occurring debris and sediment buildup.
What is Water Main Flushing?
Water main flushing involves moving water through sections of the drinking water distribution system at higher flow rates, creating a scouring action that cleans the pipes. This process is necessary to maintain the quality of the town’s water and is discharged through select fire hydrants.

- Before doing laundry or using water for other household tasks, check for any discoloration.
- If rust stains appear on clothing or fixtures, an iron-removing detergent is available for free at the DPW office on Elm Street.
- Important: Do not use bleach on stained clothing, as it can set the stain permanently.
