BMYSO Brings Soccer and Inclusive Spirit to Blackstone-Millville

In the towns of Blackstone and Millville, soccer is more than a game—it’s a way to build community, create connection, and help every child feel like they belong. At the heart of that mission is the Blackstone Millville Youth Soccer Organization (BMYSO), a volunteer-driven organization built on passion, persistence, and the power of play.
A Legacy of Local Soccer
BMYSO began in the 1970s thanks to a group of high school seniors and their coach, who wanted to bring the sport they loved to their hometown. Since then, it’s evolved with the times—sometimes small, sometimes growing—but always grounded in its founding spirit: making soccer accessible and welcoming for every child, regardless of background or ability.
Today, BMYSO has served nearly 250 players across multiple age groups, with the support of more than 50 volunteers in 2025. Their current offerings include:
- Recreation Soccer (U4–U8): A fun, introductory experience for the youngest players
- Travel Soccer (U10–U16): Competitive teams that play throughout the state
- TOPSoccer: An inclusive program designed for players with physical or intellectual disabilities
No matter the program, the BMYSO philosophy remains the same: “What’s best for the player, is best for the team, and is best for the club.”
“We try never to turn a child away,” says club President John Christina. “Our club philosophy is to have as many players playing as possible, no matter the skill level, we help families financially if needed and we support players with equipment if needed also.”
A Home for Every Player—and Every Family
One of the most powerful reflections of BMYSO’s mission is the growth of its TOPSoccer program, which offers players with special needs a supportive environment to learn, play, and connect. Led by volunteers from the local school system and the club’s board, it’s a space where kids can feel free to express themselves and shine—on their own terms.
This commitment to inclusivity extends beyond the pitch.

“We have families/players that have just moved to town and don’t know anyone” shares Christina. “Soccer is a good introduction to the town and they are able to make friends through the teams that the club has.”
So in that, soccer became the way kids made friends, and the parents got to know the community. That kind of welcome makes a big difference to families.
For newcomers, BMYSO becomes more than a sports league. It’s a way into the life and rhythm of the town—a way to feel rooted.
Powered by Volunteers, Fueled by Passion
BMYSO continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of volunteers: coaches, board members, field helpers, and community supporters. As the club grows, volunteers are always needed—and always appreciated.
They’ve also forged meaningful partnerships, like their collaboration with the New England Revolution, which brings professional training sessions to the youngest players in the U4–U10 age groups. It’s been a big hit with kids and parents alike.
Thinking About Youth Sports?
If you’re a parent on the fence about youth sports, BMYSO encourages you to reach out.
“Ask questions—any and all,” Christina emphasizes.
Parents are encouraged to talk to board members, other parents, even your child’s classmates. It’s important that families feel confident, informed, and supported.
BMYSO is not just about developing soccer skills—it’s about building life skills, friendships, and memories.
Want to Be Part of It?
Here’s how you can get involved:
- Register Your Child: Visit www.bmyso.org for information on registration, programs and schedules. Early registration is encouraged to secure spots. Spring season is already underway, and tryouts for Fall 2025 will be announced on the BMYSO Facebook this June.
- Volunteer: BMYSO is 100% volunteer-run and always looking for caring adults to coach, assist with events, or support the TOPSoccer program. No experience? No problem—this community-centered group will walk you through what is needed. Any help is appreciated!
- Sponsor or Donate: Local support makes all the difference. As a volunteer-run organization, BMYSO relies on sponsorships and donations to be able to offer well-rounded soccer programs to hundreds of children from the Blackstone-Millville communities. Your support also helps keep programs affordable and accessible to all families. Email Sponsors@bmyso.org if interested.
Whether your child is kicking a soccer ball for the first time or already dreaming of goal-scoring glory, BMYSO has a place for them—and for you. Because when a kid finds their team, they find their confidence, their joy, and their community.
A Community Effort
Soccer may be the focus, but the real goal is connection—between kids, families, and the greater Blackstone-Millville community. And it’s just one of many youth sports programs making a difference in our towns. From basketball and baseball to football, cheer, and beyond, every sport offers unique ways for kids to find their place.
