Disc Golf Is Coming to Blackstone

Disc Golf Pop-Up at Daniels Farmstead Brings New Outdoor Fun to Blackstone
Blackstone has long been a town that thrives on its natural spaces—the rushing waters of the Gorge, the trails and pathways of the Blackstone River Greenway, and the countless opportunities for hiking, biking, paddling, and fresh-air escapes. This fall, another way to enjoy the outdoors is taking root: Disc Golf Pop-Up at Daniels Farmstead.
From September 27 through October 5, Daniels Farmstead will transform into a temporary 18-hole course for the Daniels Farmstead Disc Golf Pop-Up. Open daily from dawn to dusk, the event invites residents and visitors alike to walk the historic grounds, throw a few discs, and imagine what a permanent course could mean for the community.
We reached out to Ken Tubman, President of Daniels Farmstead Foundation, and Spencer Lynds, Grants Coordinator for the New England Flying Disc Association (NEFA), who shared details about what’s in store.
A Community Already Pitching In

Momentum began this weekend with a volunteer cleanup on September 6. People turned out with gloves and tools, clearing fairways and making progress on the layout. By day’s end, the first three holes were fully complete, with others well on their way. It was a grassroots effort that showed both excitement for the pop-up and commitment to the bigger vision—a permanent course on the farmstead grounds.
Disc Golf Pop-Up at Daniels Farmstead: What to Expect
The pop-up course will feature 18 baskets, set up to be friendly for first-timers while still offering enough challenge for experienced players. Most holes are short and approachable, but they still make use of trees and natural features that give players a chance to test their skills.
Players should bring comfortable shoes, water, and discs if they own them. Don’t have gear? Beginner packs will be available for purchase on weekends when the event is better staffed, and arrangements are being made for loaner discs throughout the week. Volunteers will also be offering lessons. Local shops such as Marshall Street Disc Golf and Maple Hill Pro Shop carry beginner-friendly sets as well.
A $10 greens fee per day supports both Daniels Farmstead Foundation and NEFA’s work expanding the sport across the region. Players can check in at Daniels Farmstead, pay by cash or PayPal, and head right to hole one. Navigation is available on the UDisc app, but wayfinding signs will also be on site to help players enjoy the course without getting lost.
Disc Golf Meets Farmstead Events
The nine-day pop-up opens on Saturday, September 27, and the timing is no accident. The very next day, Sunday, September 28, it complements Daniels Farmstead’s Tractor, Truck & Car Show, giving visitors a chance to enjoy both classic vehicles and disc golf on the same trip.
The course up continues daily through October 5, culminating with the Cider Fest. That morning, disc golfers will gather for a NEFA Charity Series doubles event, bringing competitive play alongside food, history, and family activities. By the afternoon, players and festival-goers come together in a lively mix of recreation and celebration.
More Than Just a Game
Disc golf might be new to Blackstone, but it’s not new to New England. NEFA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the growth of disc golf across New England and parts of New York and New Jersey, sees Daniels Farmstead as filling a real gap—between northern Rhode Island and MetroWest Massachusetts, where course options are limited.
For Daniels Farmstead, the sport fits seamlessly with their mission of preserving history, protecting open space, and creating opportunities for recreation. Disc golf is family-friendly, environmentally low-impact, and a way to draw new visitors to appreciate this historic property in a fresh way.
A Step Toward the Future
Disc golf has been on Blackstone’s radar for sometime. Earlier this year, the sport was discussed at a Board of Selectman meeting as a potential recreational opportunity in town. Now, with course designer Jeff Turgeon and Rick Lee of the Disc Golf Design Company and Worcester Sports Foundation collaborating on the project— alongside NEFA— the vision is coming to life.
“We are thrilled to be volunteering to bring the vision for this new course to life and working in partnership with Daniesl Farmstead and NEFA on this exciting project” Turgeon and Lee shared.
The event is already generating energy, volunteers, and visitors, showing what’s possible when the community comes together on a space that welcomes everyone.
Looking ahead, the group is also seeking area partners and sponsors to help support the development of a permanent course. Community support—whether through play, volunteering, or sponsorship—will play a key role in making disc golf a lasting part of Blackstone’s recreational landscape.
Blackstone as an Outdoor Recreation Hub
For Blackstone, this pop-up is one more way the town is establishing itself as an outdoor recreation destination. Whether it’s paddling the Gorge, biking the Greenway, hiking local trails, or now tossing a disc at Daniels Farmstead, opportunities are growing for residents and visitors to connect with nature close to home.
Show Up, Play, and Make It Permanent
Pop-ups like this are more than just a fun activity—they’re a way to bring the community together, test layouts, and show the potential of a permanent disc golf course. By playing a round, bringing a friend, or simply cheering on others, you help demonstrate the value of this sport for Blackstone.
But building something lasting takes more than players—it takes partnerships. The organizing group is actively seeking area sponsors and community partners to support the development of a permanent course. Every show of support, whether through play, volunteering, or sponsorship, strengthens the case for disc golf as part of Blackstone’s future.
This is your chance to be part of something new for the town: to enjoy the outdoors, connect with neighbors, and help shape a recreational space that can be enjoyed for years to come. Come out, have fun, and show that disc golf belongs here!
At Small Town Post, we believe in telling stories that connect neighbors to the people, places, and possibilities shaping our community. The Daniels Farmstead Disc Golf Pop-Up is one of those stories—blending history, open space, and new opportunity in a way that only Blackstone can.
