Worth Every Penny Pastries & Confections: Millville Baker Turning Sweet Dreams Into Art

Millville is home to many hidden gems—but few are as sweet (literally!) as Worth Every Penny Pastries & Confections. What started as a pandemic-era experiment has quickly grown into one of the most buzzed-about local dessert businesses in the area.

Penny Silvia, the solo baker behind the brand, never planned on becoming a professional cake artist. It all began with a Facebook video and a gadget that didn’t quite work as promised. “It was a disaster,” she admits, laughing. But it sparked something. She dove into YouTube tutorials, experimented with buttercream, and started baking so often her friends and coworkers couldn’t keep up.

Penny Silvia celebrates her first sale at a BMR Event

A turning point came when she delivered two dozen cupcakes to the nursing staff at Boston Medical Center as a thank-you. A photo she posted led to her first custom order, and soon after, she nervously signed up for her first local craft fair at BMR. “I was SO NERVOUS that no one would want to buy anything… and was SO EXCITED with my first sale!

Every Treat Made by Hand, From Home

Worth Every Penny Pastries & Confections is a one-woman operation. Penny handles everything herself—from baking and decorating to packaging, cleanup, and everything in between—all from her licensed home kitchen in Millville. As a Massachusetts “cottage baker,” she’s invested in professional tools and top-quality supplies, allowing her to produce high-quality, eye-catching creations without needing a commercial storefront.

Even more impressive? This isn’t her full-time job. Penny leads a global IT department by day and runs her home bakery during evenings and weekends. Between family life, a demanding career, and custom orders, she still finds the time—and heart—to make each treat feel special. It’s more than a hobby. It’s a creative outlet, a passion project, and a true labor of love.

And if you’re wondering whether she takes shortcuts: not a chance. “I want to look at the finished treats and smile and think, ‘Wow, I did that!’”

Custom Cakes, Cupcake Bouquets, and Viral Treats

Most of Penny’s creations are custom-made to fit a customer’s theme or vision. She works closely with each client to bring their ideas to life—whether that’s a traditional wedding palette or something a little quirky and fun. From edible butterflies to metallic shimmer finishes and tiny penguins piped from royal icing, no detail is too small.

One of her most popular offerings right now? Cupcake bouquets—floral-themed cupcakes arranged to look like real flower arrangements. “They become centerpieces,” she says. A recent bridal shower order included 61 cupcakes and nearly 20 pounds of buttercream. “Terrifying to carry—but gorgeous!

She also keeps up with dessert trends, including the wildly popular Dubai Bars, which she first tried during a business trip overseas. Now, they’re part of her online inventory—and a big hit at local markets. And she’s not stopping there: coming soon, Turkish cotton candy–chocolate bars.

And while Penny’s desserts often steal the spotlight with their design, it’s the reactions that mean the most to her. One recent customer described the flavor as just right—delicious without being too sweet, and “kind of like love.

She especially enjoys seeing her work come to life at first birthday celebrations, when babies are presented with their very first cake. Watching their surprise turn to full-on joy—and then pure chaos—as they dig in with both hands – never gets old. For Penny, those joyful cake smash moments are a reminder of why she does what she does.

Find Her at Fall and Holiday Markets

While Penny skips summer markets (heat and buttercream don’t mix well!), she’s a regular at fall and winter events. This year you can catch her at:

  • Slater Park Fall Festival – September 6–7
  • Beef Barn Fall Artisan Fair
  • Plus other local holiday markets!

Ordering, Following, and Saying Hello

Penny’s work is as flexible as it is beautiful. Most of her orders are 100% custom and not easily shippable, but you can see examples, browse treats, and reach out through:

She even offers online ordering for select items like Dubai Bars!

Can You Make a Cake That Looks Like…?” Yes, She Can.

From bouquets to buffalo wings (that are actually chocolate and peanut butter) to fully edible beer buckets, Penny embraces the fun and the unexpected. She loves when someone asks, “Do you think you could make…?” Her answer: Challenge accepted.

Whether she’s piping delicate buttercream roses or crafting chocolate-peanut butter “buffalo wings,” Penny’s creations are proof that you don’t have to leave town or go far to find something truly exceptional. Right here in the quiet corner of Millville, Worth Every Penny Pastries & Confections is bringing big creativity and handcrafted quality to the local community.

It’s a sweet reminder that incredible talent isn’t always tucked away in fancy storefronts or big cities—sometimes, it’s just around the corner, turning sugar and vision into something unforgetable.
